1997 Harvesting

The year began with highly unsettled weather followed by a very long spring drought with several Foehn wind episodes which contributed to enhance the dryness of the soil.

Anyway, after March temperatures lowered all through April, while the water emergency lasted all through the summer which was recorded as one of the driest in the century.

September turned out to be rather favourable to maturation which came to completion well ahead of its time.

The wines

1997 is undoubtedly an exceptional year, in the strict sense of the word, due to this year’s unique climatic conditions.

This resulted into extraordinary wines, but with unusual high qualities for the whole region.

Rich, round taste, velvety and soft tannin, moderate acidity make these wines unique especially in the early years.
